Chick Evans Caddie Scholarships |
The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship Program was started by one of golf's greatest amateurs, Charles "Chick" Evans Jr. of Chicago. Evans, who learned the game as an caddie, gained worldwide fame in 1916 when he became the first golfer to win both the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open championships in the same year. Because Evans insisted on preserving his amateur status, he directed any money he received from golf be put toward caddie scholarships. Today, more than 830 deserving caddies across the country attend college on a full tuition and housing scholarship each year from the Evans Scholar Foundation. The River Forest Country Club Members strongly support the Evan's Scholar Foundation through donations to the Western Golf Association's (WGA) Par Club. The WGA administers the program and Scholarships are awarded annually. The WGA awarded the first scholarship for a RFCC caddie in 1967. Today we are proud to have a long list of Evan Scholar Alumni who started caddying at River Forest Country Club. In addition, River Forest Country Club currently has 10 Evan Scholars attending college across the Midwest.
